From Heaven Hill Distilleries

We work with the same local farms we’ve had relationships with for decades to select corn, malted barley, rye and wheat, which are then milled and combined according to our recipe, also known as a “mashbill”. These ingredients eventually become the whiskey you know and enjoy.

We source all of our barrels from family-owned cooperages we’ve worked with for generations. The newly filled barrels are then placed in open-rick warehouses to naturally age. It’s during the aging process, when the barrels experience the hot summers and cold winters of Kentucky, that the whiskey acquires its distinctive color, aroma and taste, imparted by the charred oak barrel.

*Research Notes*

  • Hard to find any “white label” Old Style Bourbon information online.  It’s as if Heaven Hill doesn’t want you to know it’s there, despite the name on the label!
  • We *think* it’s been aged for 3-4 years?  REALLY hard to tell.  No info from the label, website, or the freaking entire internet.
  • A 1996 fire at their distillery caused them to purchase the facility in downtown Louisville.  While the spirit is distilled there, it’s still aged and bottled in Bardstown.
  • Heaven Hill Brands is the second largest bourbon producing company in the world.
  • Some of the earliest Master Distillers in the company (which is still family owned) came from the Jim Beam family.

*Tasting Notes*

via Bourbon Guy

  • Nose: Dried grains, mint, orange peel and a hint of oak.
  • Mouth: Sweet in the mouth. Cinnamon candies, dried grains, and vanilla.
  • Finish: Short and kind of bitter with lingering dried grains.
  • Thoughts: Very grain forward with an unpleasant finish. This is only a meh bourbon.
